Royals fans, in what is becoming an annual tradition, were a bit peeved last week when the (usually) smart folks Baseball Prospectus released their PECOTA projections, which pegged the Royals for a 76-win season. This followed a 78-win projection in 2014 and a 72-win projection last year.
So while there were plenty of articles examining where that projection might be missing, including one from BP itself, I just started thinking about Bill Pecota, the Royal whom the system is named for (if you’re wondering, PECOTA stands for Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm, and the player had nothing to do with its creation).
