No one really saw last year coming.
The 2023 Royals lost 106 games. Despite an aggressive offseason, it was absurd to believe that the 2024 Royals could truly compete. So when I wrote an article suggesting that there was a path to contention, however narrow, most of the comments ridiculed the notion.
To be clear, I didn’t see it coming either. I thought a lot of things would have to break right at the same time, and that was pretty unlikely. And then it happened. Almost everything panned out as it needed to for the Royals to make the playoffs.
