The Royals called a press conference on the first day of a three-game series in May. Not because there was a roster move to announce. There was no trade or Major League debut to celebrate. Philadelphia was on the schedule for an Interleague series, which brought the Phillies to Kauffman Stadium for the first time since 2007. It also brought family together.
The Phillies’ third base coach, Dusty Wathan, is the son of John Wathan, who played 10 seasons with the Royals from 1976–85, managed the team from 1987–91, and has worked in various roles in scouting and player development since 1999.
