Stat of the Day: Whit’s 30-Game Hit Streak

Whit Merrifield tripled to lead off the bottom of the first inning in Tuesday night’s 6–3 loss vs. Seattle, extending his hit streak to 30 games dating back to last Sept. 10, in which he’s batting .328/.379/.508 (42-for-128).

The streak George Brett (1980) for the longest streak in Royals history. It’s also the longest in the Majors since Freddie Freeman’s 30-game run from Aug. 24-Sept. 28, 2016.

Merrifield is the eighth American League player since 1969 with a 30-game hit streak, joining: Paul Molitor (39, 1987), Ken Landreaux (31, 1980), Ron LeFlore (31, 1975–76), Brett (30, 1980), Eric Davis (30, 1998), Nomar Garciaparra (30, 1997) and Sandy Alomar (30,1997).
