Stat of the Day: Whit Sets Royals Hitting Streak Record

Whit Merrifield extended his hit streak to 31 games in Wednesday’s 6–5 loss with a game-tying bunt RBI single in the seventh. The streak dates back to last Sept. 10, in which he’s batting .326 (43-for-132).

It’s the longest hitting streak in Royals history, breaking a tie with George Brett (1980), and it’s the longest streak in the Majors since Dan Uggla’s 33-game run in 2011.

Since Joe DiMaggio set the Major League standard with his 56-game hit streak in 1941, Merrifield is one of five American League players with a hit streak of more than 30 games, joining: Paul Molitor (39 in 1987), Dom DiMaggio (34 in 1949), Ken Landreaux (31 in 1980) and Ron LeFlore (31 from 1975–76).
