Following a midseason trade from Oakland, Billy Burns recorded just one RBI with the Royals in 2016 — and he made it count.
On Sept. 27, his walk-off sacrifice fly off Tommy Milone to give Kansas City a 4–3 win over Minnesota in 11 innings was a rarity in Royals history. It was only the 22nd walk-off sacrifice fly in the regular season by a Royal, and the first since Mike Aviles did it on May 7, 2011 vs. Oakland’s Brandon McCarthy.
Royals fans may also remember Eric Hosmer’s 14th inning walk-off sacrifice fly in Game 1 of the 2015 World Series off Bartolo Colon, which was the first walk-off sac.
