- Vargas is now 2–0 with a 0.66 ERA (1 ER in 13.2 IP) in 2017 and remains unbeaten in his last eight starts dating back to June 3, 2015.
- Pitched into the eighth inning on Thursday for the first time since his three-hit, complete game shutout — also vs. Oakland — on Aug. 13, 2014, extending his scoreless-innings streak vs. the A’s to 16.2
- He’s the first Royal to record at least 7.
