Stat of the Day: Vargas’ Strong Start

Jason Vargas held the Giants scoreless on three hits in 7.0 innings on Wednesday night in Kansas City’s 2–0 win. In addition to his 7.2 scoreless innings on April 13 vs. Oakland, Vargas has now recorded 14.2 consecutive scoreless innings.

He has pitched at least 6.0 innings and allowed no more than one run in each of his first three starts, becoming the fourth Royals pitcher ever to record three such starts to begin a season, joining Zack Greinke (2008), Runelvys Hernandez (2003) and Kevin Appier (1992).
