The Royals were held to just one run in their 11-run loss in Chicago Monday night. It marked the eighth straight game in which they’ve scored two-or-fewer runs, setting a new franchise record, previously done in 2004 and 1990.
The silver lining is that the last team to be held to two-or-fewer runs in eight straight games was the 2015 Chicago Cubs, a club that won 97 games and went to the NLCS.
The record for most consecutive games scoring two-or-fewer runs in 11, done by the 1978 St. Louis Cardinals, the 1947 Washington Senators and the 1942 Boston Braves.
