Stat of the Day: Rookie Batting Champ

Cheslor Cuthbert hit .274 (130-for-475) in his first full season with the Royals, winning the American League rookie batting title (min. 3.1 PA/team games). He edged Texas’ Nomar Mazara, who hit .266 (137-for-516) in 145 games.

In doing so, Cuthbert became the sixth Royal ever to win the AL rookie batting title, joining: Eric Hosmer (.293 in 2011), Mark Quinn (.294 in 2000), Bob Hamelin (.282 in 1994), Kevin Seitzer (.323 in 1987) and Lou Piniella (.282 in 1969).

Cuthbert also led American League rookies in doubles (28), ranked tied for first in multi-hit games (33), second in hits and fourth in RBI (46).
