The Royals recorded just 73 errors in 2019, second fewest in the American League behind only Houston (71). This season was the third straight in which the Royals set their club’s single-season record for fewest errors in a 162-game season, after committing just 79 errors in 2017, before breaking that record with 77 in 2018.
The Royals are the first team ever to record 80 errors or fewer in three consecutive 162-game seasons.
Rawlings is expected to name the 2019 Gold Glove winners next month. The Royals are the only American League team with at least one winner in each of the last eight seasons from 2011–18, and trail only Colorado’s streak of nine straight seasons among Major League teams.
