Brad Keller’s 7.0 scoreless innings fueled Kansas City’s 5–3 win over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday to clinch the Royals’ first Opening Day win since 2016.
Keller retired 21 of 24 batters he faced, allowing only: a two-out walk in the second, a one-out single in the fourth and a two-out single in the sixth.
At 23 years, 244 days, Keller became the youngest Major League starter to win on Opening Day since José Fernández (21.243) in 2014, and the youngest in the American League since Félix Hernández (22.363) in 2009.
