Jakob Junis pitched Game 2 of Sunday’s doubleheader vs. Seattle, a 9–1 win. He recorded a career-high 8.0 innings, allowing just one run on four hits and no walks, with a career-high seven strikeouts. He allowed six of the first nine batters to reach before retiring his last 19.
Junis is the first Royals rookie to record an 8.0-inning start since the late Yordano Ventura (8.1 IP) on July 4, 2014 at Cleveland. He’s also the seventh Royals rookie to record at least 8.0 innings with no walks and seven strikeouts and first since Denny Bautista on April 8, 2005 at the Angels.
