Stat of the Day: Iron Esky

Alcides Escobar is the only Royal ever to start 162 games in a season — and he’s done it twice.

Alcides Escobar was one of two Major League players to start 162 games in 2016, joining Baltimore’s Jonathan Schoop. He’s the only Royals player ever to start all 162 games in a season — and he’s done it twice (also, 2014).

In fact, he’s the only player to start 162 games as a shortstop since Jimmy Rollins did it during his 2007 National League MVP season.

According to Elias, Escobar has made 171 consecutive starts dating back to September 26, 2015, which is the longest active streak in the Majors.
