Welcome to 2017! A new year brings chance for improvement, something Kansas City has been historical good at in recent years.
Following their 65-win season in 2009, the Royals improved their win total in each season for the next six years, winning 67, 71, 72, 86, 89 and 95 games through the 2015 season, which culminated in their first World Series championship since 1985.
In doing this, the Royals became the second team ever to improve their win total in six consecutive seasons, joining Connie Mack’s Philadelphia Athletics, who won 36 games in 1919 before improving to win totals of 48, 53, 65, 69, 71 and 88 through 1925 (h/t Elias).
