Whit Merrifield played in 81 games for the Royals during his 2016 rookie season, making starts at five different positions: second base (55), left field (11), right field (three), third base (three) and first base (one).
In doing so, he became the first Royal to start games at five different positions (none as the DH) since Willie Bloomquist in 2010. In just 72 games with the Royals in 2010, Bloomquist made starts in right field (15), third base (nine), center field (eight), left field (four) and second base (four). He also made one start as the designated hitter and appeared in three games at first base and once at shortstop.
