Chris Young is making his first start of the season on Tuesday at Tampa Bay, filling in for the injured Ian Kennedy. At 37 years, 349 days, Young will be the fourth-oldest pitcher to start a game in Royals history and the oldest since Gaylord Perry started on Sept. 21, 1983 at 45 years, 6 days old.
In addition to Perry, only Lindy McDaniel and Steve Renko have started at an older age than Young, who turns 38 later this month.
