The Royals scored two runs in Friday’s night’s loss in Detroit on solo homers by Whit Merrifield and Jorge Soler in the first and ninth innings, respectively. It was the first time in franchise history that both of Kansas City’s runs in a game occurred on solo shots in the first and final frames.
While the homers joined forces to make franchise history, each had historic implications in its own right.
Merrifield led off the night with an inside-the-park homer to center field, fighting back from an 0–2 count against Tigers starter Edwin Jackson.
