Royals catcher Salvador Pérez has been named a finalist for the 2021 Silver Slugger Award, as voted on by managers and coaches. Pérez smacked 48 home runs, setting a MLB record for most home runs by a player who spent at least 75 percent of his playing time at catcher. He led all American League catchers in runs, runs scored, doubles, total bases, and extra base hits. Salvy will be up against Tampa Bay’s Mike Zunino, who finished second among AL catchers with 33 home runs, and led all AL catchers with a least 300 plate appearances in slugging percentage.
