He kept the Royals 18-inning shutout streak alive into the third and recovered quickly from back-to-back doubles, taking a one-run deficit into the sixth.
Ventura finished his outing with six strikeouts, eight hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings in the Royals 6-3 Game 2 American League Championship Series victory against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday night at Kauffman Stadium.
“I thought he threw the ball great,” Royals manager Ned Yost said. “We stayed with him in the sixth inning because we felt like his stuff was good, but he battled his command.
