A family friend started a campaign to get Wilson to a World Series game after he'd watched the Royals' run through the 2014 playoffs from his hospital bed. After Major League Baseball heard about Wilson, it sent a box of memorabilia to his home and invited him and his entire family to a World Series game. They also attended a World Series Gala and met several players.
Eric Hosmer, Wilson's favorite player, posted a tweet after getting the news of his passing.
