Volquez's father, Daniel, died on Tuesday, at age 63, due to complications from a heart condition. A couple of hours later, Volquez took the mound for Game 1 of the World Series, pitching six innings of three-run ball without knowing about his father. Volquez's wife asked the Royals to not tell him until after he finished his start.
