The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has signed infielder/outfielder Whit Merrifield to a multi-year contract through 2022, with a club option for the 2023 season. Consistent with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Merrifield, 30, made the Opening Day roster for the first time in 2018 and recorded career highs in games (158), runs (88), hits (192), doubles (43), walks (61), stolen bases (45), batting average (.304), on-base percentage (.367) and OPS (.806), all of which led the Royals. For his efforts, Merrifield was named the Les Milgram Player of the Year, voted on by the Kansas City Chapter of the BBWAA.
