The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have signed right-handed pitcher Jason Hammel to a two-year free agent contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Hammel, 34, has spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Cubs, going 15–10 with a 3.83 ERA in 30 starts in 2016 with 144 strikeouts (7.8 SO/9) and 53 walks (2.9 BB/9) in 166.2 innings. His 15 wins were a career high.
He held opponents to one-or-fewer runs in 13 of his 30 starts, and allowed three-or-fewer runs in 23 of his 30 starts.
