The Royals have signed right-handed pitcher Braden Shipley to a minor league deal. The 27-year old Shipley was a former first-round pick by the Diamondbacks in the 2013 draft, going 15th overall out of the University of Nevada-Reno. He started out strong as a minor leaguer and was ranked a Top 100 prospect by Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, and MLB Pipeline before the 2014, 2015, and 2016 seasons, but struggled to make the transition to the big leagues. In parts of three seasons with the Diamondbacks, he has a 5.49 ERA in 100 innings, with just 5.8 strikeouts-per-nine innings and 4.
