The Royals today announced several transactions to set the club’s 40-man roster ahead of tonight’s offseason reserve list deadline.
Kansas City signed C Drew Butera to a two-year deal after he hit .285/.328/.480 and set career highs in doubles (10) and home runs (four) in 2016, his first full season with the Royals.
Among AL catchers in 2016 (min. 100 at-bats), Butera’s .808 OPS ranked fifth, trailing only Gary Sanchez (1.032), Jonathan Lucroy (.885), Sandy Leon (.845) and Evan Gattis (.826).
Kansas City outrighted LHP Tim Collins to Triple-A Omaha and he has subsequently elected to become a free agent.
