Royals 'shocked' with their April mark of 7-16

"Very shocking," said center fielder Lorenzo Cain, who hit his first homer on Sunday. "It's tough to go through a stretch like this. I know we're better than this. You just have to keep battling and come out of this. It's been a tough month and we hope to just turn the calendar and get into May."

Royals manager Ned Yost added, "You don't anticipate this. You don't anticipate getting off to this kind of start. Coming out of Spring Training, we thought we'd get off to a good start."

For much of the losing streak, the offense has been the culprit.
