The Royals have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Sam Long and have designated right-hander Matt Sauer for assignment. Sauer gave up a three-run home run in Sunday’s game against Oakland and had a 7.71 ERA in 14 games with the Royals.
Long has pitched in parts of the last three MLB seasons with the Giants and Athletics. In 80 career big league games, he has an ERA of 4.92 with 103 strikeouts in 128 innings. His best year was in 2022, when he posted a 3.61 ERA in 28 games with the Giants. In his MLB career, lefties have actually fared better against him than right-handers.
