The Kansas City Royals have recalled third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez to take place Hunter Dozier’s roster spot. The Royals had placed Dozier on the 10-day IL, retroactive to May 31, due to a thorax injury. Dozier will be eligible to return on June 10.
Gutierrez hit .281/.300/.386 with one home run in 15 games for the Royals earlier this season. He has enjoyed a nice year in Triple-A Omaha, however, where he has a healthy .312/.430/.403 triple slash over 22 games. Gutierrez has two home runs and a 16.1% walk rate in the minors.
Going forward, Gutierrez and newly-recalled Cheslor Cuthbert will likely share playing time at third base, first base, and as the designated hitter.
