Royals ready to see Mondesi in big leagues

The Royals recalled top prospect Raul Mondesi from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday and optioned infielder/outfielder Whit Merrifield to Omaha.

Mondesi, who turns 21 on Wednesday, was suspended 50 games on May 10 for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The infielder had a nine-game rehab assignment with Class A Advanced Wilmington before he was reinstated to Double-A Northwest Arkansas, then promoted to Omaha after four games.

The club's No. 1 prospect per MLBPipeline.com, Mondesi was hitting .304 with two doubles, four triples, one home run and five stolen bases in 14 games for the Omaha Storm Chasers.
