Southpaw Kris Bubic continued his masterful first full season in the minors on Thursday, twirling a one-hit shutout for the Wilmington Blue Rocks and leading them to a 1–0 win over the Lynchburg Hillcats.
Bubic faced the minimum through 8.0 innings and carried a no-hitter into the ninth, after issuing a leadoff walk to Steven Kwan in the fourth. Kwan was promptly thrown out attempting to steal second base, an apt representation of Bubic’s dominance that night, as no Hillcat got past second. This was true of the 21-year-old’s other blemish of the night, a leadoff single by Jason Rodriguez in the ninth that ended the no-hit bid.
