NEW YORK -- After experiencing right shoulder soreness in his last start, Royals right-hander Kris Medlen was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday. Kansas City also placed righty Chris Young on the DL with a right forearm strain, recalled left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander and selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Peter Moylan from Triple-A Omaha.
Young's DL stint is retroactive to Tuesday, making him eligible for reinstatement on May 25, while Medlen can be reinstated a day later.
Medlen's ERA ballooned to 7.77 after his second successive poor outing on Tuesday in the Royals' 10-7 loss to the Yankees.
