As the world prepared for the American League Wild Card game in 2014, Royals fans nerves were probably at an all-time high. We hadn’t seen our favorite team in the playoffs in nearly three decades and there was a legitimate discussion around town about whether or not making it to the one-game playoff was even a legitimate playoff game and should be counted. So the mission was clear. Win that game so it didn’t matter what anyone thought. Of course, the Royals won a sort of exciting game and went on to sweep the ALDS and the ALCS on their way to the World Series.
