The Kansas City Royals on Saturday announced that Danny Duffy will start opening day April 3 at Minnesota.
For Duffy, the 28-year-old lanky left-hander, it will be his first career opening day start.
“Obviously it means a lot,” Duffy said from the team’s spring training complex in Surprise, Ariz. “This is my first one. I’ve worked really hard to get to this point I’m definitely honored. There’s five of us that are capable of doing that, and the fact that they chose me says a lot, and I’m very humbled by that.”
Last season, Duffy went 12-3 with a 3.
