Royals lose to the Indians 5-2, continue nightmarish run at Progressive Field in Cleveland

CLEVELAND

These days, there is nothing particularly impressive or intimidating about Progressive Field, the downtown stadium that sits just a few blocks northwest of the Cuyahoga River. This season, the place is drawing just 19,497 fans per game, down considerably from the Indians’ glorious years of the late 1990s, when the stadium, then called Jacobs Field, rocked on a nightly basis.

Once a crown jewel of baseball’s ballpark boom, the stadium has started to show its age, like any 22-year-old park would. Now home to the best team in the American League Central, the stadium has yet to regain its old mystique.
