Royals lose series opener in Chicago, falling 7-2 to White Sox

CHICAGO

In recent days, Royals manager Ned Yost has continued a simple ritual: He won’t look at the standings. He rarely checks other scores during games. Sometimes he’ll peek at them afterward, just to see what happened. But these days, yeah, that’s about it.

His players have largely followed suit.

“There’s no reason to,” Eric Hosmer said.

These words came on Monday evening, in the moments after a victory over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. The message, Hosmer said, was not complicated. The Royals were still four games out of the second American League wild card berth, still too far buried to scoreboard watch.
