Royals pitcher Dillon Gee had a surgical procedure performed on Tuesday and it went well, as he shared a photo on Instagram on Wednesday that showed him in the hospital.
Gee’s season was cut short when he was diagnosed with blood clots in his right shoulder and lungs while the team was in Detroit on Sept. 25. Gee was hospitalized, and later had the clots removed, but then said he needed surgery to correct thoracic outlet syndrome.
That is a neurogenic condition caused by the compression of nerves near the neck and shoulder. According to the Cleveland Clinic, surgery removed the first rib, which makes more room for the vessels and nerves.
