Royals bring back Alcides Escobar to play shortstop in 2018

A day after one of the Royals’ “core four” players from their 2015 World Series championship team left via free agency, another will return.

The Royals are bringing back shortstop Alcides Escobar, the MVP of the 2015 American League Championship Series.

“Alcides wanted to come back and we were fortunate to make it work,” Royals general manager Dayton Moore said Friday on KCSP-AM, the Royals’ flagship radio station. “We’re glad to have him back.”

Moore added Escobar will play shortstop, where Raul Mondesi was also in the mix.
