Remembering the worst series Ángel Hernández ever called for the Royals

Longtime MLB umpire Ángel Hernández has reportedly reached a settlement with MLB to retire, effective immediately, eliciting relief and odes of joy among fans around the league. Having served as an umpire since 1991, Hernández has become a lightning rod for his missed calls and combative attitude towards players and coaches.

Royals fans observed Hernández in his full glory in a May 2021 series against Cleveland.

In the series opener, Hernández was umpiring at second base when Cleveland’s Eddie Rosario lay down a surprise bunt. Royals second baseman Nicky Lopez had to charge in to make the play, but was impeded by Hernández, who actually walks into the play.
