CLEVELAND -- Royals left-hander Danny Duffy left Tuesday's game in the first inning after facing seven batters, and right fielder Brett Phillips left the game in the third inning, an inning after crashing into the right-field wall.
In the first inning, after Cleveland's Jason Kipnis delivered an RBI single to right to make it 3-0 Indians, pitching coach Cal Eldred visited the mound, quickly followed by manager Ned Yost and trainer Nick Kenney, to consult with Duffy. The lefty was then removed from the game.
Duffy, who recently came off the disabled list after battling through a left shoulder impingement, gave up four hits and walked a batter, and really appeared to struggle with his command.
