Perez crowns 9th-inning rally with grand slam

KANSAS CITY -- What a difference a week makes. Royals right-hander Jorge Lopez, who flirted with a perfect game last Saturday against the Twins, left Friday night's game against the Twins in the fifth inning at Kauffman Stadium with what the club announced was a left rib contusion.

Lopez will be re-evaluated on Saturday.

Lopez gave up nine hits this time and three runs in the Royals' 8-4 walk-off victory. Whit Merrifield singled in the tying run in the ninth after Rosell Herrera had doubled, and Kansas City won it on Salvador Perez's grand slam on a 3-2 pitch from Trevor Hildenberger.
