Ned’s Notes: August 31

Related Topics: Ned Yost, Jerry Vasto

Royals manager Ned Yost met with the media prior to Friday night’s series opener with the Baltimore Orioles.

Yost noted that catcher Salvador Perez’s absence from the lineup for the second straight game is due to a sprained left thumb that bothers him most when swinging a bat. Perez is available to catch off the bench and is considered day-to-day, according to Yost.

That leaves the Royals with just one healthy catcher Friday, as Drew Butera was traded to Colorado for left-hander Jerry Vasto earlier in the day.

Cam Gallagher was recalled from Triple-A Omaha and will make his seventh start of the season behind the plate for Kansas City.
