Now a familiar face behind the plate since joining the Royals on July 16, Meibrys Viloria’s introduction to the Majors came last year, after the Royals recalled him from Advanced-A Wilmington on September 1, 2018.
According to Royals Hall of Fame Director Curt Nelson, Viloria became just the sixth known Royal to jump from Class-A to the Majors (excluding Rule 5 picks), joining: Donnie Murphy (2004), Dee Brown (1999), Mike Sweeney (1995), Jeff Granger (1993) and Buck Martinez (1969).
Viloria made his Major League debut one year ago today, serving as the starting catcher at Kauffman Stadium against the Baltimore Orioles.
