Mondesi is 1st to make MLB debut in World Series

NEW YORK -- Royals top prospect Raul Mondesi made history on Friday night at Citi Field by becoming the first player to make his Major League debut in the World Series.

Mondesi pinch-hit for relief pitcher Danny Duffy leading off the fifth inning of Game 3 with the Royals trailing the Mets, 5-3. The 20-year-old shortstop struck out swinging on a 1-2, 98-mph fastball from 23-year-old Mets flamethrower Noah Syndergaard, then came out of the game the next half-inning when right-hander Luke Hochevar took the mound for Kansas City.
