Being a Major League Baseball team manager can be a rewarding gig. It’s certainly an exclusive one, with only 30 people on the planet with that specific job title. But it is often a thankless one, a job where the crap gets shoveled onto your plate whether it’s yours or not.
Take poor Pedro Grifol, for instance. Did he do a poor job managing the Chicago White Sox these last two years? Yeah, that seems to be the consensus. But let’s be real here: not even Joe Torre or Bruce Bochy or Bobby Cox would have squeezed any juice out of the dried husk of a lemon that has been the 2023-2024 White Sox.
