Luke Hochevar either made the smartest play in Wednesday’s game or he was the most fortunate.
Either way, the Royals got out of a jam because of it.
The Reds trailed 4-3 but had the bases loaded with one out. Hochevar had entered the game in relief of Jeremy Guthrie, and induced Jay Bruce to pop up on the infield.
The infield fly rule was called, so Bruce was out. Then Hochevar either deliberately or accidentally allowed the ball to fall to the ground and Jason Bourgeois tried to score for some reason.
Take a look:
“That was all planned,” Hochevar (tongue in cheek) told The Star’s Andy McCullough.
