The Royals' top Draft pick, Florida right-hander Brady Singer, was honored Friday as the 2018 Dick Howser Trophy recipient, an award given annually to the top college baseball player in the nation.
Singer, who was the 18th overall pick last week, was a first-team All-America selection and 2018 SEC Pitcher of the Year as a junior. He's gone 12-1 with a 2.30 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 101 2/3 innings this season. The 6-foot-5, 180-pound hurler completed at least seven innings in 11 of 15 starts -- including his first career shutout on May 4 at Texas A&M -- and led the SEC in wins and ERA during the regular season.
