When the KC Royals signed Kris Medlen to a two year contract with a team option for a third season, they likely were not sure as to what they were getting. Medlen had missed all of the 2014 season after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery, and the track record of pitchers with more than one of those procedures is not exactly stellar. After all, Chris Capuano is the only pitcher to make more than ten starts after his second surgery.
Medlen came close to that mark last year for the Royals. He appeared in fifteen games, making eight starts, spanning 58.
