Royals starter Nathan Karns will miss the remainder of the 2017 season, as he is scheduled to undergo thoracic outlet surgery from Dr. Gregory Pearl on July 19 in Dallas, according to a report from MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan. Karns expects to be ready to pitch again by Spring Training in '18.
Karns has been on the 60-day disabled list since May 21 with nerve irritation in his right shoulder. The fifth-year right-hander has made eight starts (nine appearances) in his first season for Kansas City, going 2-2 with a 4.17 ERA and a career-best 27.1 percent strikeout rate.
