The former National Gatorade player of the year, Bobby Witt Jr. was the second overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. It was well known that Adley Rutschman was going to be the number one overall pick for quite some time, so all the Royals had to do was not overthink the decision.
Witt Jr. was ranked as the best high-school shortstop prospect in the country and had a verbal commitment to continue playing baseball at the University of Oklahoma. However, it was a fairly easy decision for then 18-year old to forgo college and start his professional career.
